Premium Japan for a family of 4, 11 days, 5-star at every stop, private licensed guides instead of audio receivers, helicopter from Tokyo to Hakone instead of the Shinkansen for the kids' trip-of-a-lifetime moment, two-night onsen ryokan stay (the kind with private outdoor bath in your room) instead of one. We extend the Kyoto block to 3N so you can do Fushimi Inari without rushing, plus a half-day private workshop (kids try sword forging at the Fukamachi atelier, parents do tea ceremony with a master), plus an Arashiyama riverboat. Tokyo is Aman Tokyo or Park Hyatt with Disneyland and Pokemon Cafe. Osaka is Ritz-Carlton with Universal and Dotonbori. Every transfer is private vehicle; no rushed Shinkansen connections with bags and screaming children. The premium isn't 'fancier hotels', it's removing every friction point that family travel adds.
Helicopter transfer Tokyo → Hakone, 25 minutes over Mt Fuji and Lake Ashi (kids' favourite trip moment, parents quietly impressed)
Aman Tokyo or Park Hyatt Tokyo, the New York Bar Lost in Translation view from Park Hyatt 52nd floor or Aman's Imperial Palace garden view
Tokyo Disneyland with Premier Access for 7 attractions (the platinum-tier pass, near-zero queueing for the family)
Aman Kyoto, stays in a 32-acre forested estate with Mt Hiei views, walking distance to the Golden Pavilion (one of the most exclusive Japan family stays)
Hakone Gora Hanaougi premium ryokan with private outdoor onsen + Mt Fuji view in your suite, 2 nights, kid-portion kaiseki
Private licensed guides through Tokyo Vatican Sistine Chapel ... wait we're in Japan, private guides at Senso-ji, Fushimi Inari, Kinkaku-ji, Arashiyama for English explanation kids will follow
Private workshop split day at Higashiyama: kids try Japanese sword forging at the Fukamachi atelier, parents do tea ceremony with a master, then re-converge for a kimono family photoshoot
Universal Studios Japan with Express Pass 7, the platinum tier covering 7 attractions including Yoshi's Adventure, Spider-Man, Hogwarts, Mario Kart, Demon Slayer, Sing on Tour, Despicable Me
Private Arashiyama riverboat (yakatabune) for the family with a sushi chef on board, sushi-making demo for kids during the cruise

End of trip
Four 5-star properties in four cities, plus a luxury onsen ryokan. Aman Tokyo is on top of Otemachi Tower with vertical-garden views over the Imperial Palace and a private 30m glass-walled pool. Park Hyatt Tokyo is the New York Bar setting from Lost in Translation, 52nd-floor view to Mt Fuji on clear evenings. Hakone Gora Hanaougi has 18 suites each with private outdoor onsen overlooking the mountains, kid-portion kaiseki served in your room, English staff, family-friendly futon configurations. Aman Kyoto sits inside a 32-acre cedar-and-bamboo private forest near Kinkaku-ji, with private dining pavilions, an onsen, and walking trails kids actually use. The Ritz-Carlton Osaka in Umeda is the city's only Forbes 5-star, club lounge access included. All five confirm family-of-4 configurations and welcome amenities.

Yes on both. We use Excel Air's family-rated helicopter (single-engine Bell 407 with 4-passenger plus pilot configuration). Safety briefing in English, child seat belts integrated, headphones noise-isolated. The 25-minute flight goes over Tokyo Bay, the Yokohama waterfront, and Mt Fuji from the south, kids consistently rank this as the moment of the trip. Worth: yes, it replaces a 3-hour Shinkansen + bag-handling slog with a 25-min experience. The premium tier wouldn't make sense without it.
Aman Kyoto sits in a 32-acre private forest near Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), about 15 min by vehicle from central Kyoto. We've chosen it deliberately because Aman is the only Japan property where you walk out of your suite into your own forest, kids run around without traffic, cedar trees, the property has its own onsen and a swimming pool with mountain views. For city-side activities (Fushimi Inari, Higashiyama, Arashiyama) the private vehicle is included. If you'd prefer a central Kyoto base, we can swap to Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto or Park Hyatt Kyoto on request.

Standard hotel check-in is 1.30 PM and check-out 10 AM. For questions specific to your booking, message your planner.
Standard Premier Access covers 5 main attractions; platinum covers 7. The 2 extra slots usually go on Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, or Pooh's Hunny Hunt depending on the family's age range. With 4 family members on platinum, you also skip the same lines twice. Total queue time on the park day: platinum ~1h, standard ~2h, no-pass ~5h. Platinum is included in the premium package.
Real and safe. The Fukamachi atelier is in its 11th generation of swordsmiths in Higashiyama. Kids forge a small utility knife (kogatana, ~6 inches) under direct supervision of the master and his apprentices. Modern safety protocols: gloves, safety glasses, a roped-off forge area where the kid only does hammer work on cooled metal. The kid takes home the actual finished knife as a souvenir. Age 8+; we don't recommend for under-7 (attention span). For under-7, we substitute a calligraphy class at the same Higashiyama machiya.
We've run this trip with kids missing 7 school days successfully. Indian school summer holidays (May, June) line up perfectly for an 11-day trip. December break also works for the Christmas overlay. For kids in the IB or American school systems, October half-term works. We'd recommend not pushing to 13+ days as the pace is genuinely tiring even with premium pacing; 11 is the sweet spot.
Family of 5: we add a connecting suite at every property; helicopter charter scales to 5 passengers (we use a 5-seat Bell 407); USJ Express Pass 7 scales per person. Pricing scales ~+₹45,000 for the 5th member. Family of 6: we usually run two adjoining family suites and add a second helicopter charter or fly the second helicopter the next day; pricing scales ~+₹100,000 for the 6th member. Tell us at booking and we re-quote.
