Day-by-day Itinerary
Your journey, unfolded.
- DAY 1
Day 1: Arrive Leh — Rest
Arrive Leh. Rest day. Gear check.
- DAY 2
Day 2: Leh Acclimatization
Light sightseeing. Rafting briefing with the river guide. Review river sections and safety protocol.
- DAY 3
Day 3: Leh → Kargil → Padum (drive, 2 days)
Drive Leh to Kargil via Lamayuru (5hrs). Overnight Kargil.
- DAY 4
Day 4: Kargil → Padum via Pensi La (8hrs)
Cross into Zanskar. Arrive Padum. Rest and river briefing.
- DAY 5
Day 5: Phugtal Monastery Day Trip
Drive and trek to Phugtal — the cliff monastery. Return to Padum. Pack for the river: leave non-essentials at guesthouse. All river bags packed tonight.
- DAY 6
Day 6: Day 1 on River — Padum to Nyerak Beach (20km rafting)
9am put-in at Padum. The Zanskar River is wide and cold. First rapids are class II as the river enters the canyon. Walls rise on both sides. Villages dot the cliffside above — people wave. Pass Karsha on a high cliff. By afternoon: class III rapids, the canyon pinches tight. Camp on sandy beach inside the gorge. Bonfire. Stars framed by canyon walls.
- DAY 7
Day 7: Day 2 on River — Nyerak to Pishu (18km rafting)
Full day in the canyon interior. The gorge is at its narrowest and most dramatic. Class III-IV rapids through the Pishu Canyon section — the most technical part of the trip. Guide scouts each rapid before running. Villages perched impossibly on cliff ledges 500m above. Camp at Pishu beach.
- DAY 8
Day 8: Day 3 on River — Pishu to Chilling — Confluence with Indus (25km)
Final river day. Canyon gradually opens. The turquoise Zanskar meets the grey-green Indus at Chilling in a dramatic confluence of colours. Take-out at Chilling. Change clothes. Drive 2 hours back to Leh. Celebration dinner.

Day 9: Leh — Rest and Depart
Free morning. Transfer to airport. Trip ends.
