Turkey gives you two very different trips in one: the history and food of Istanbul, and the strange, beautiful valleys of Cappadocia. Most first visits split the time between them, linked by a short domestic flight. In Istanbul you walk between Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar, then take a boat along the Bosphorus between Europe and Asia. In Cappadocia you wake before dawn for the balloon flights, explore cave churches and underground cities, and watch the sun set over the fairy chimneys. With a week or more, add the white terraces of Pamukkale, the ruins at Ephesus or a few days on the Aegean coast at Bodrum. April to June and September to October bring the most comfortable weather. Balloon flights depend on the wind, so we always give you more than one Cappadocia morning to try.
