Char Dham Yatra Cost: What Each Trip Actually Buys, and Who Should Not Go

A four-dham Char Dham Yatra by road costs ₹22,500 to ₹32,000 per person on Trust and Trip's live prices, for 9 to 12 days starting from Haridwar or Delhi. By helicopter it's ₹2,20,000. Pay for nights, not speed. The cheapest Char Dham trip we sell isn't the worst one, and the most expensive road trip isn't the best. The difference is how many nights you get, and what happens at Kedarnath. ## How much does a Char Dham Yatra package cost? These are Trust and Trip's live prices on 24 September 2026, per person. All of them cover the same four shrines: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The Divine Char Dham Yatra is ₹22,500 for 9N/10D from Haridwar, with breakfast and dinner, double or triple sharing, and a Dzire sedan for the whole circuit. The Char Dham Yatra by Road from Delhi is ₹26,000 for 11N/12D in an AC Tempo Traveller. The 10N/11D Group Departure from Haridwar is ₹28,999, on triple or quad sharing. The Uttarakhand Chardham Yatra 8N/9D from Haridwar is ₹32,000 on double sharing and ₹30,000 on triple. At the top, the Char Dham Yatra by Helicopter from Dehradun is ₹2,20,000 for 5N/6D on double sharing. Train or flight fares to Haridwar, Delhi or Dehradun are extra on every Char Dham trip we list. So is travel insurance. ## Which Char Dham road trip is worth the money? For parents, or anyone travelling with them, the ₹26,000 11N/12D from Delhi. It's the only Trust and Trip four-dham road trip with an English and Hindi speaking yatra guide, a first aid kit and an oxygen cylinder on the vehicle, and a pony or palki arranged at Kedarnath if someone needs one. It also helps with the online shrine registration and biometrics. And it has the gentlest finish: after Badrinath, the drive home is split over two days via Rishikesh instead of one. Two things to confirm before you book it. The inclusions list all three vegetarian meals, while the description says breakfast and dinner, so ask about lunch. And the listing excludes a Delhi to Haridwar train ticket even though day one drives you there, so ask which it is. For a fit group of four adults who can start in Haridwar, the ₹22,500 9N/10D is the better price. You get two nights each at Barkot, Uttarkashi and Guptkashi, so Yamunotri and Gangotri are each a day trip from a hotel you sleep in twice, and you come down from Kedarnath to a room you already know. What it doesn't include matters more than on the others: pony, palki, helicopter, the Kedarnath shuttle or jeep, entry tickets and lunch are all yours to pay. GST isn't mentioned either way, so ask. The ₹28,999 group departure is the one to pick if you want a second night at Badrinath. It's the only Char Dham road trip we list that gives Badrinath a full day of its own. The trade is quad or triple rooms and fixed dates. ## Why is the shortest Char Dham trip the one to skip? Because the ₹32,000 8N/9D costs the most of any Char Dham road trip we sell and gives you the fewest nights. Our own itinerary for it has an 8 to 9 hour drive from Uttarkashi to Guptkashi on day five, and a 10 to 11 hour drive from Badrinath back to Haridwar on the last day, after the morning darshan. It also charges 5% GST on top unless it's bundled, and the inclusions only promise breakfast. For ₹9,500 less, the ₹22,500 trip gives you a ninth night. If you really only have eight, do two dhams properly instead. ## What does a Char Dham package not include? The walk, or the ride, at Kedarnath. Trust and Trip's Char Dham itineraries put the Kedarnath trek at 16 km each way from Gaurikund, which our Delhi listing says takes 5 to 7 hours up. Yamunotri is a 6 km uphill trek from Janki Chatti, 3 to 4 hours one way. Pony, palki and doli charges are excluded from every road trip we list except the ₹26,000, which arranges them but doesn't say it pays for them. Budget for them if anyone in your group won't walk both climbs. Lunch, on most listings. Puja items, temple donations and any VIP darshan charges. The Sonprayag to Gaurikund shuttle, which the ₹22,500 trip names as an exclusion. GST, where a listing adds it. And weather. Several of our Char Dham listings exclude costs from road blockages, landslides and cancelled helicopters, which means an extra night stuck in Guptkashi or Joshimath is yours to pay for. Travel insurance is worth buying for that alone. ## Is the helicopter Char Dham Yatra worth ₹2,20,000? Only if nobody in your group can do the Kedarnath or Yamunotri climb and you have six days, not ten. The ₹2,20,000 trip flies from Dehradun to Kharsali for Yamunotri, on to Harsil for Gangotri, then to the Kedarnath helipads and Badrinath, and back. It includes all vegetarian meals, five nights in heated hotels, a dedicated yatra manager and darshan assistance at each temple. What it can't include is the weather. Our own group-departure listing notes that helicopters are cancelled 30% or more of the time in July. Extra charges from a weather cancellation are excluded on this trip too. Go in May, June or October if you're paying for the flights. If it's only Kedarnath that's the problem, the Kedarnath by Helicopter 2N/3D is listed at ₹1,50,000 per person on double sharing, with the Phata to Kedarnath return flight included. Check the current official seat fare before you pay for the convenience around it. ## Can you do just Kedarnath and Badrinath? Yes, and for a lot of families it's the better trip. Trust and Trip's Do Dham Yatra from Haridwar is ₹13,999 for 5N/6D on triple sharing (₹14,999 double) with breakfast and dinner, and ₹16,500 for 6N/7D by road with all vegetarian meals, a guide, Kedarnath registration help and an oxygen cylinder. From Lucknow, the 6N/7D Do Dham is ₹15,999 on double sharing, driving out via Haridwar and back via Rishikesh. Kedarnath alone from Haridwar is ₹8,999 for 3N/4D on triple sharing, with a night up at Kedarnath so you're not doing 32 km in a day. ## When is the best time for a Char Dham Yatra? May and June, then late September and October. That's where the Trust and Trip Char Dham hub and the month notes on our group departure agree. July is monsoon, and our group listing tells groups to skip it. August is the heaviest month, with landslide risk on the Joshimath road. The shrines close for winter. The temple committees announce the closing dates each year and they usually fall around Diwali, so check them before you book a late October departure. The same goes for opening dates in spring. If you're reading this in late September, October is the month to aim for. The monsoon is clearing and the peaks are out. It also overlaps the Diwali school break, so book early. ## Who should not do the Char Dham Yatra by road? Anyone with fewer than nine nights for all four dhams. You'll spend the trip in a vehicle. Do two dhams, or fly. Anyone with a heart or lung condition who hasn't asked a doctor about 3,583 metres at Kedarnath and 3,293 metres at Yamunotri. Those are the altitudes on our own itinerary, and the Kedarnath night is spent up there. Anyone travelling in July or August, for the reasons above. Anyone expecting good hotels at the shrines. On our road trips, the night at Kedarnath is in a basic camp, guest house or dharamshala. The comfort is in Guptkashi and Uttarkashi, not at the top. If none of that is you, start with our Char Dham trips and work back from how many nights you have. ## So what should most people book? Travelling with parents: the Char Dham Yatra 11N/12D by road from Delhi at ₹26,000 per person. A fit group of four starting in Haridwar: the ₹22,500 9N/10D.
