Crafting your travel…Diwali week — four days, one day of leaveHappy Diwali
Crafting your travel…North Goa is cheaper to reach and louder to stay in. South Goa is quieter and better for a honeymoon. Our North Goa trip starts at ₹7,999 per person and South Goa at ₹8,899, both covering stay, breakfast, transfers and sightseeing, flights extra. Here is how Indian travellers should pick between them.

North Goa is cheaper to reach, louder, and better for a short first trip. South Goa is quieter, greener, and better for a honeymoon or a family travelling with small children or parents. On Trust and Trip's own Goa pages the headline gap between the two is about ₹900 per person.
That ₹900 is the least interesting number here, though, and it is misleading. Read on for the one that isn't.
Roughly 40 kilometres of coast and two completely different trips.
North Goa is Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator. Beach shacks sit shoulder to shoulder, the markets run late, and you can walk from your room to dinner. It is dense. That density is the point: if you have three nights and you want the Goa you have seen in films, you want the north.
South Goa is Cavelossim, Varca, Benaulim and Colva, plus Old Goa and Panjim inland. The resorts are set back from the sand, the beaches run empty for kilometres at a stretch, and there is very little to walk to. Our own South Goa itinerary leans on the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, Dona Paula and the Dudhsagar waterfall excursion rather than on the beach strip, because in the south the beach is where you sit still, not where you go out.
The honest summary: north is for doing things, south is for not doing things.
The sticker price says north. The per-night maths says south, and that is the number worth carrying away.
These are the live per-person prices on our Goa pages on 21 September 2026. Every one of them covers accommodation, daily breakfast, airport or railway station transfers and the listed sightseeing. None of them includes airfare or train tickets, and none includes lunch, dinner or water sports.
Our North Goa Sightseeing trip is 3 nights and 4 days at ₹7,999 per person, built around Fort Aguada and the Candolim, Calangute, Baga and Anjuna run. Our South Goa Tour is 4 nights and 5 days at ₹8,899 per person, with the Old Goa churches, Dona Paula, Dudhsagar and a spice plantation.
So the south trip costs ₹900 more. It also gives you an extra night. Work it per night with the same class of inclusions and north comes out at roughly ₹2,666 per person per night against about ₹2,225 in the south. South Goa, in our own catalogue, is the cheaper side to sleep on.
Why does everyone believe the opposite? Because the package is not the trip. What our numbers cannot tell you is your daily spend once you land, and that is where the north earns its budget reputation: cheap shack food, cheap scooter hire, cheap beer, and everything within walking distance so you are not paying for a cab twice a day. In the south you will call a taxi to go anywhere, and the resort restaurant will often be the only realistic dinner. We can quote you the stay honestly. We cannot quote you the bar tab.
If you want both sides without choosing, our Goa Coastal Escape runs 3 nights and 4 days across north and south sightseeing at ₹8,500 per person, and the 2 night Goa Beach Escape does a compressed version at ₹5,500.
South Goa, and it is not close. But the better answer is to split the stay.
A honeymoon in Baga means your balcony faces a road that is still awake at 1am. That is a fine holiday. It is a strange honeymoon. South Goa gives you the thing the north physically cannot: a beach with nobody on it at seven in the morning.
The trip we actually recommend for couples with five nights is the split. Our Goa Romantic Beach Escape puts 3 nights in Candolim and 2 in Cavelossim at ₹24,500 per person, with the transfer between them running about 90 minutes in a private vehicle. You get the markets, the Mandovi sunset cruise and the Fontainhas walk in the first half, then the empty sand and the spa in the second. Couples who do it the other way round, quiet first and loud second, almost always tell us they wished they had flipped it.
Above that, our Goa Honeymoon Package is 5 nights at ₹26,500 and the Goa Premium Couple Luxury Retreat is 5 nights at ₹65,800. That last one is a real jump, and it buys a hotel tier rather than a better itinerary. Be clear with yourself about which one you are paying for.
South Goa, for a boring and completely decisive reason: the resorts are self-contained.
With a four-year-old or a 70-year-old in the group, the walk-everywhere advantage of the north turns into a liability. Narrow lanes, scooters, no pavements, and a beach you reach through a shack. A south Goa resort puts the pool, the restaurant and the sand inside one boundary wall, and the day plans itself.
Our Goa Family Holiday Package is 5 nights at ₹18,999 per person and the Goa Family Beach Holiday is 5 nights at ₹23,500. Both are per person, so price a family of four accordingly rather than reading those as trip totals.
Groups are the exception that goes the other way. If six friends are coming for the nightlife, book north and stop deliberating. Our Goa Group Beach Getaway is 4 nights at ₹11,500 per person and the Budget Group Party and Beach Getaway is 4 nights at ₹12,500.
Yes, and for a first trip it is usually the right call. The drive between our Candolim and Cavelossim hotels is about 90 minutes each way.
Doing that as a day trip costs you three hours and most of the reason you came. It works if you are staying north and want one day of Old Goa, Panjim and a quiet beach. It does not work in reverse. Nobody who booked a south Goa resort to rest wants to drive 90 minutes to stand in Baga at night and then drive back.
With three nights, pick a side. With five or more, split the stay.
Trust and Trip lists November to February as the right window for Goa, and that is what we book against. The weather is dry, the sea is calm and the shacks are all open.
The trade is crowds and rates, both of which peak hard around Christmas and New Year. If you want the season without the surcharge, early November and the first half of February are the same weather at a different price.
Do not book June through August expecting a beach trip. Most shacks close for the monsoon, water sports stop, and the sea is not for swimming. Goa in the rain is genuinely good if you are going for the green and the empty roads and you know that is the trip you booked. It is a bad surprise if you were sold sunshine.
One practical thing to check before you book anything: Goa has two airports, and our Goa transfers are quoted from Dabolim (GOI). If your fare lands at Mopa in the north instead, the transfer time and cost change, so confirm which one your ticket is for and tell your planner.
Three groups, and we would rather say so now than after you have paid.
If you are looking for a quiet nature trip in December, Goa in peak season is the wrong destination at the wrong time. You want Coorg, Wayanad or the Andamans.
If your entire plan is nightlife and someone has talked you into a south Goa resort because it photographs better, cancel it. You will spend the trip in a taxi and resent the beach.
And if this is a five-day trip where you want to see a lot, Goa will underdeliver. It rewards staying put. That is the whole appeal, and it is also the reason some people come back flat.
Everything above is on our Goa destination page, where the current prices are live rather than quoted from a post that will age. If you tell us your dates, your departure city and who is travelling, a planner will tell you which side to book and say so plainly, including when the answer is that Goa isn't it.
