Crafting your travel…Char Dham yatra departing Lucknow — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath. 10–11 nights by road, doctor on call, sattvik meals. From ₹48,000/person.
The Char Dham yatra from Lucknow is a road journey before it is a mountain one. It is roughly 550km from Lucknow to Haridwar, and how that first leg is handled decides whether yatris arrive at the Garhwal foothills rested or already tired. We run the Lucknow departure as an overnight coach or a daytime tempo traveller depending on group size and age mix, with a Haridwar night built in before the climb begins — not a same-day push into Barkot.
This is our most-requested departure city, and not by accident: Lucknow, Kanpur, Sitapur and Barabanki yatris make up a large share of every season's road groups, and a yatra that starts from Delhi or Haridwar means arranging your own way there first. Departing from Lucknow removes that. The rest of the itinerary is the same 10-to-11 night circuit we describe on the main Char Dham page — clockwise from Yamunotri through Gangotri and Kedarnath to Badrinath, with rest days at Barkot and Sonprayag, a doctor on call throughout, and sattvik Brahmin-cooked meals across the whole route.
Season dates are set by the temple committees on the Hindu Panchang and announced 60–90 days ahead: Yamunotri and Gangotri open on Akshaya Tritiya in late April, Kedarnath and Badrinath within days after, and the season closes at Bhai Dooj in early November. Tell us your travel month and we confirm the live dates for that year rather than quoting last season's.
550km to Haridwar is a full day. We run it as an overnight coach for larger groups or a daytime tempo traveller for smaller ones, with fixed meal halts rather than wherever the driver prefers, and a Haridwar night before the mountains. Groups that push Lucknow to Barkot in one day arrive at altitude already depleted, which is where most yatra fatigue actually starts.
We do not attempt four dhams in seven nights. Rest days at Barkot and Sonprayag, shorter walking days at altitude, and meals timed around darshan windows. For yatris 65 and over we add a second rest day after Kedarnath. Most fixed-departure coach yatras run faster and lose a portion of the group to altitude sickness or exhaustion.
A 24/7 doctor line for altitude headaches, blood-pressure spikes and the small medical problems that end a yatra when ignored. We carry a portable oximeter and basic AMS medication for the Yamunotri and Kedarnath stretches, and evacuation procedures are documented for each dham before you leave Lucknow.
Kedarnath is a 16km walk, Yamunotri a 6km one. Palki, pony and pithoo for elder yatris are booked in advance with weight checks done, not negotiated at Gaurikund on the morning. Where a group wants the Phata helicopter leg instead, slots are pre-blocked weeks ahead rather than left to day-of availability.
